Cricket charities join forces to provide Oxford Cricket Club with new non-turf cricket pitch

Released on 21 April 2009

Oxford CC announced today 15th April that it will receive a new match play non-turf cricket pitch (NTP), courtesy of a £5,000 grant through the Cricket Foundation's Chance to shine programme.

Jointly funded by the Cricket Foundation and The Lord's Taverners, the cricket pitch will provide a further high quality surface on which to to develop club members' skills. The benefits of the new pitch will be evident for many years to come.

Ian Pickford Chairman of Oxford CC said: "We are thrilled with our new pitch. It will provide our club with a further fantastic facility for developing our players. This is the second non-turf pitch that has been awarded to the club following our commitment and success with the Chance to Shine programme. The great benefit of non-turf pitches is that the surface is playable in all weather conditions and does not need preparation work from specialist groundsmen. "

Wasim Khan, Director of Operations and Development at The Cricket Foundation, said: "Non-turf pitches are a fantastic addition to any Oxford CC's ground and will enable more competitive fixtures to be played. The Lord's Taverners have provided fantastic support for Chance to shine right from the launch and have helped by providing investment for NTPs in schools and clubs."

Shona Langridge, Head of Fundraising & Communications at The Lord's Taverners said: "We believe that sport and recreation are vital to the development of young people. Non-turf pitches are just one way we encourage participation in the sport of cricket. The cricket pitches provide schools and clubs with vital equipment to allow young people access to the sport."
