The Oxford CC U9s lost for the first time at home against a strong Goring team.

Bowling first, Goring put Oxford under pressure from the very start, taking two early wickets and bowling consistently well throughout the Oxford innings. Nevertheless, some quick running, particularly by Eoin and John, meant Oxford made steady progress. Eoin, Samir and Ayaan did well not lose their wicket at any point. Some big hitting by Arthur, Eddie, Bobby, and Eddie pushed the score up in the latter half of the Oxford innings. Arthur's two boundaries were the highlight.

Defending a relatively low total, Oxford made an outstanding start to their bowling. After George and Barney bowled a couple of tight opening overs, Eoin, Arthur, Bobby, and Ayaan all took wickets in the first ten overs. Samuel made an exceptional run out from behind the stumps as well. Remarkably, Oxford were ahead at the halfway point, with sharp fielding and bowling putting Goring under real pressure.

However, on a warm morning and against some outstanding batting, it proved difficult to maintain the momentum. Goring's pairs in the latter half of the innings proved too strong, taking the game away from Oxford from the 12th over onwards. Although the final score suggested a comfortable win, the outcome of the match had been in doubt until late on.

The match was played in a great spirit and doughnuts were enjoyed by all at the end.
