The variable weather including rain, wind and sun made for uncertainty but this girls U11 hardball fixture ultimately went ahead and managed to play through without interruption on Sunday 7th July.

Thame, fielding three guest players in this 8v8 fixture, won the toss and placed the home team into bat. The heavier post-rain turf and bowling consistency of the visitors had a bearing on the outcome as they delivered 55 dot balls compared to Oxford’s 37, from 96 deliveries. An Oxford six was a magnificent sight shortly before the end of the innings, as the field dried in the sun and breeze just in time for Thame’s innings.

Oxford did well to take four wickets compared with Thame taking just two but small differences add up. Oxford were generous hosts, providing two overthrows that ran for four runs a piece in addition to producing more extras overall. Thame ran more off Oxford’s no balls and wides.

Further excitement presented itself when the Red Arrows flew overhead. The girls’ enthusiasm and improved fielding was welcome to see and in this match we didn’t run ourselves out! Small all round improvements are needed as a team. Continued progress, a bit more focus at key moments and encouragement within the team will heighten our performance next time.
