Oxford Cricket Club senior team captains have been appointed ahead of the 2026 season. In this feature, the captains of each side share their perspectives and what they are hoping for in the 2026 season.
The Men’s First XI will again be led by Jack Wilkins, in what will be his second season in charge. The opening bowler, who topped the wicket-taking table in 2025 with 26 @ 19.15, had this to say:
“We've recruited well since last season and have added a few new faces to the squad, including Brad Taylor, Gaaj Gaajuran and Will Smith. Hopefully, we'll add one or two more before the start of the season. A few of the younger lads (Julian & Alfie) will hopefully be around for a full season, which will also feel like new signings. Isaac Dikgale agreeing to come back for another season is great for the Club. His ability and experience is good for our young squad and is also great for me to lean on when needed. Yes we’re quite a young squad but I believe it's full of potential and fully committed. All in all buzzing for the summer ahead with the lads and hopefully we’ve learnt from the ups and downs of last year and can really push on up the league table this season."
Jack will be supported by a core of senior players on the field this season, with the first engagement of the year being the annual Town vs Gown fixtures against Oxford University CC on 25th April. The team will play in Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division 2 (where they finished sixth in 2025) and start their campaign on 9th May at home to Stoke Green Cricket Club.
Genny Porter will continue as the Women*s First XI captain this season. Following a 2025 season where they finished second in the Premier Division of the Home Counties Women’s Cricket League by an agonising four points, the all-rounder - who has amassed a mammoth 1,267 runs @ 66.79 over the past two seasons - is aiming to go one better this time out:
“I'm really looking forward to getting to getting back on the pitch with the Women's 1st XI, and I think we’re in for an exciting season! After coming second in the Premier Division of the Home Counties Women’s Cricket League the past two years, we’re aiming for a win this time!
We’re also hopeful to welcome back Trish Holder for next year - so fingers crossed for that.”
The team, who will be Vice-Captained by Emilia Bartram, begin their season with pre-season friendlies against Oxford University on 26th April before their first league at home to Falkland Cricket Club on 3rd May.
The Men’s Second XI will be captained by Richard Musk in 2026, taking over from Arthur Muir who has moved into the role of Vice-Captain. The fast bowler, who took eight wickets @ 31 in 2025, described his ambitions for the team after they maintained their place in the Division 2 of the Cherwell Cricket League:
“ After achieving our aims last season in the 2nd team we are looking to build on that again this year. With a healthy looking mens section we hope to bring some more youth players into the side and also support the 1st team with their ambitions. Given the away grounds we have to visit this year and the preparation that has gone into this off-season, it's going to be an exciting campaign ahead”
The team will play their cricket in Division 2A of the Cherwell Cricket League and start their season away against East Oxford Cricket Club.
Finn Aston will continue to skipper the Women*s Second XI in 2026. The top order batter, who scored 68 runs in the 2025 campaign which saw the side finish fifth in Division 2B of the Home Counties Women’s Cricket League, had this to say:
“ I’m super excited to be back as Women’s 2s captain this season.
My aim this year is to give as many people as possible a chance to fall in love with cricket. I’m looking forward to meeting new players and seeing old friends. With our success at the end of last season I’m hoping for a few wins and a strong season!”
Finn will be supported by their Vice-Captain Alishba Hussain and begin their season with a Super-Eights double-header away at Banbury Cricket Club.
The Men’s Third XI will continue to be led by Steve Hurt in 2026, with Club stalwart Ross Buchanan taking on the role of Vice-Captain. The side finished seventh in Division 6C if the Cherwell Cricket League in 2025, and the captain - who scored 407 runs @ 58.14 in 2025 - has challenged the array of talent from the OCC Youth Academy to make their presence felt in senior cricket this season:
“Looking forward to another competitive season in Division 6 of the Cherwell League. We have some excellent young cricketers coming through our Academy programme and I expect them to make a big contribution to the 3s this season.”
The team remain in Division 6 of the Cherwell Cricket League and travel to Bledlow Ridge Cricket Club on 9th May to kick off their season.
The Men’s 4th XI find themselves under the leadership of Richard Pye for 2026, with former captain Ed Baldock acting as Vice-Captain. A staggering run of form to end the 2025 season saw the team finish sixth in Division 7B of the Cherwell Cricket League. Richard, who scored 67 runs in the 2025 season, was full of enthusiasm for an exciting season ahead:
“ Honoured to captain the 4s this season - and grateful that Ed will be there to lend a hand!
Looking forward to doing battle in Div 7B alongside our amazing veteran players while continuing to develop our committed juniors (and hopefully welcome some fresh faces to our ranks, too). There's a fresh slate of teams to face this year, and competition will be tough. To that end, I really appreciate everyone's flexibility around selection, as we try to put our strongest foot forward each week. Keeping your availability up to date in Pitchero from week to week makes all the difference.
Anticipating a great season ahead.
Go 4s!”
The team start at their home at Marston Sports Ground against Marcham Cricket Club on 9th May in Division 7 of the Cherwell Cricket League.
